Skate Park History
A group of middle and high school skaters, The Shelby County Skate Park Advocates, formed in December 2006 and spent their winter break developing their strategy to make a Shelby County SkatePark a reality. In early 2007, they successfully lobbied the Parks Board and City and County elected officials for permission to create a park. Over the next 12 months the young men secured the site, created a design and raised over $90,000 for the park. The Park opened in May 2008. Key contributors included: Citizens Union Bank, The Tony Hawk Foundation, Alcan Packaging, Wal-Mart, Hardee's, The Moses Ruben Fund, and the State Land and Water Conservation Grant Program.
